Talk About Woodville: First Rocktober Fest on Saturday

After months of planning, dozens of emails and quick meetings, and hundreds of text messages to work out the details, it’s finally time for Woodville’s first Rocktober Fest. The event, scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Saturday at Trail Marker Park, is a benefit for the village’s parks and recreation fund. Money raised will help to pay for needed repairs at the pool as well as development of the planned LimeLite Park on Main Street. There are plans in the works to make this an annual event but with the addition of more entertainment and also activities for kids and families.

For this first event, Rocktober Fest will bring back Woodville’s beer tent for this one night. Entertainment will start with a DJ at 6 p.m., followed by “The Fabulous Disasters” at 7 p.m. A local favorite, Frank’s Fries, will be on the grounds to serve up their famous fries as well as a few of their other specialties. Raffle prizes will be awarded every hour and Halloween costumes are encouraged. Parking will be available on the grounds.

Organizers still seek sponsors to help defray the cost of the tent, insurance and other expenses. Donations may be made to the Woodville Business and Community Association (WBCA) at Fremont Federal Credit Union. The WBCA is a non-profit organization and donations are tax-deductible. If you would like to donate a raffle prize, contact Judy at 419-84-3994 or 419-467-2793 or email jlkpet@yahoo.com.

Mayor to ride with Meals-on-Wheels

Mayor Rich Harman is planning to ride the Meals-on-Wheels truck serving homebound residents in the Woodville community on Wednesday. Following a brief overview of the Meals-on-Wheels program at 10:30 a.m. at the Woodville Senior Center, Harman will assist with the day’s deliveries. This program is a valuable service that helps homebound residents remain in their homes longer than they otherwise might. Not only do they receive a meal that meets the USDA standards for nutrition for the elderly, but it is also an opportunity for the driver to check on their welfare. The Woodville Senior Center is located at the Woodville Township Fire Station.

Library happenings

The Woodville Library has several programs on their calendar for the upcoming week. Coloring Crew is a new program for kids, teens and adults. Just drop in between 6:30 and 8 p.m. Wednesday for a stress-free evening of coloring and refreshments.

This month’s KidzCraft program will feature Halloween crafts. Kids can stop by anytime from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday to make a craft to take home.

The library now has a new book club for kids in from first to fourth grades with a little twist. Rather than reading the book before the meeting, the staff will start the book-of-the-month together, then take it home to see how it ends. Crafts and snacks are included. The first meeting will be at 6:15 p.m. Oct. 19.

Meet school board candidates

There will be a Meet Our Candidates Night at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Woodmore Elementary Cafetorium. Each of the candidates running for Woodmore School Board will have an opportunity to share their platform and answer questions from the community.
