Two-vehicle crash injures motorcyclist in Caledonia

MARION – Troopers from the Marion post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating an injury crash that occurred about 7:25 a.m. Tuesday on Ohio 309 at Main Street in Caledonia, a news release states.

Maureen E. Welch, 71, of Caledonia, was driving a 2010 Toyota Prius east on Ohio 309 approaching the intersection of Main Street in Caledonia, the patrol said while Travis E. Wolford, 23, of Galion, was driving a 1998 Suzuki GSXR750 motorcycle west on Ohio 309.

Welch attempted to make a left turn onto Main Street and failed to yield the right of way at the intersection and was struck by Wolford, the release states. Wolford was thrown from the motorcycle, the patrol said, and both vehicles came to rest on Ohio 309.

Wolford was treated at the scene by First Consolidated emergency medical service until MedFlight arrived to transport him by air to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.

He was listed in critical condition Tuesday, the release states. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the patrol said. Welch reported no injuries from the crash, officials said, and her seat belt was in use.

The patrol was assisted at the scene by First Consolidated firefighters and emergency medical services as well as MedFlight.

The crash remains under investigation.
