Two sentenced in Muskingum County in separate cases

ZANESVILLE – Two men were sentenced in Muskingum County Common Pleas Court on fraud, drugs and weapons charges.

•Nathaniel B. Shumate, 23, 3211 Boggs Road, was placed on three years of community control sanctions and ordered to serve 180 days of local incarceration after pleading to three charges. He was found guilty of theft, misuse of a credit card and identity fraud, all fifth-degree felonies. A misdemeanor count of theft and a third-degree felony of tampering with evidence were dismissed. Shumate must also complete a drug treatment program and perform 100 hours of public service.

•Ross M. Gannon, 36, was sentenced in two separate cases to a total of 48 months in prison. He pleaded guilty in the first case to one count of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony, and was sentenced to 12 months in prison. Another third-degree felonious weapons charge was dismissed.

Gannon was also sentenced to 48 months in prison in a second case, to run concurrently with the first case. He pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine, possession of heroin and having a weapon while under disability, all third-degree felonies. Another count of aggravated possession of methamphetamine, a fifth-degree felony, was dismissed in that case.

Though he was listed as a New Concord resident in the first case docket, the second case lists his address as 1556 Wheeling Ave. in Zanesville.
