MANSFIELD – Galion freshman Marisa Gwinner jumped her way to two runner up finishes at the Mehock Relays held Saturday morning at Mehock Field.

Gwinner competed in the girls long jump and finished with a jump of 16-feet-7.5. She also competed in the girls high jump where her finals jump of 5-4 nabbed her a runner up finish.

Gwinner is the state's' top-ranked high jumper, with a best performance of 5-8. She is also the number two long jumper in the state with a best of 17-5. Galion head coach Todd Roston knew he had a special athlete on his hands, but did not expect her to contribute so fast.

"Marisa is having an outstanding season for us. We knew coming in to this season she was going to be a huge contributor to the team, but did not expect to see her jumping so high this quick in the season. She has a very bright future in track and field," Roston said.

Galion took home a 10th place finish in girls team rankings.

Colonel Crawford's Clay Martin earned a runner up finish in the boy's 1,600 meter run with a time of 4:31.33. The Eagles also had a third place finish from Chad Johnson in the boys 3,200 meter run with a time of 9:51.79.
