ZANESVILLE – The Mid-East Career and Technology Centers Board of Education approved the contract for Richard Hall to be the new superintendent.

Hall is the current superintendent at East Guernsey Local School District in Guernsey County. He accepted the board’s offer during a special meeting Monday night.

“I have a background in career technology,” Hall said.

The number one focus for the school, Hall said, would be to make students either college- or career-ready after high school. And the administration and staff need to continue thinking forward when it comes to education and careers for current students.

“We need to prepare students for the jobs of tomorrow, not the jobs we had growing up or the jobs of today,” Hall said.

Thomas Perkins, the current superintendent at Mid-East, was rehired as superintendent at Northern Local School District beginning next year. Perkins’ last day at Mid-East is July 31, and Hall begins on Aug. 1.

Hall’s salary will be $115,000 per year.

Hall has served as superintendent at East Guernsey Local Schools for seven years. Before that, he taught nine years in a career tech program at Buckeye Trail High School, where he also graduated from. Hall has been a lifelong resident of Guernsey County and lives almost exactly halfway between the Zanesville and Buffalo Mid-East campuses.

“I will have a presence at both Buffalo and Zanesville,” Hall said.

Rick France, president of the board at Mid-East, said he thought Hall would be a good fit for the school.

The board just completed a search for a new superintendent last year, France said, and board members learned during that process that a relatively local applicant would likely be a better fit than an applicant from across the state.

“We were trying to get someone who wouldn’t have to relocate,” he said.

The board vote to hire Hall was unanimous, other than two board members who were absent.

France said Hall’s background in career technology and his experience as superintendent of East Guernsey were strong indicators that Hall would be right for the job.
