Skiing, tubing banned on Buckeye Lake

Gannett Ohio staff report

Water skiing, tubing and other towing water sports will be banned on Buckeye Lake because of safety concerns, according to a Friday release from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

ODNR also designated a speed zone on the western part of Buckeye Lake where boaters can operate at greater than idle speeds between sunrise and sunset. The speed zone extends from Seller's Point to just west of Cranberry Bog State Nature Preserve, where depths are greater.

Between sunset and sunrise, the area will become a no-wake zone, according to the news release. The rest of the lake will be treated as a no-wake zone all of the time because of safety concerns.

Other water activities, such as kayaking and paddling, will be allowed.

ODNR will post new signs at boat launches to remind boaters of the changes. Buoys will mark the speed zone and where dredging is occurring, according to the release.
