NEW CONCORD – Unioto claimed a pair of regional titles during the Division II regional track and field meet on Thursday at Muskingum University.

The top four in each event earned a berth to the next weekend's state meet in Columbus.

Defending state discus champion Trevor Detillion won his second straight regional crown with a meet record throw of 184-feet-1, and Nick Cozad, Jeremy Good, Cole Clever and David Magda won the boys 4x800 relay in a school-record time of 8:04.9 for the Sherman Tanks.

Detillion was hoping for a better distance, but returns to defend his state title.

"It shows my hard work is paying off," he said. "I put the work in every day, and I have a lot of support. Those two things have helped me go as far as I have."

The relay team inserted Cozad into the lineup during practice on Wednesday. His effort was key, noted Magda.

"We have two freshman, and we just added Nick. This is an extremely huge accomplishment," he said.

The Zane Trace girls 4x800 relay was fifth (9:53) and the Unioto girls 4x800 sixth (9:54); the Zane Trace boys 4x800 came in eighth (8:18); Zane Trace's Morgan Miller (4-10) and Hailey Puckett (4-8) were 11th and 12th, respectively, in the girls high jump; Waverly's Aaron Elliott took 10th in the boys discus (132-1) and Westfall's Caleb Kennelly was eighth in the pole vault and teammate Emily Walker was 15th in the girls shot (29-9).
