Throwers lead the way at Heath track invite

HEATH – The Zanesville boys led the area contingent with a second-place finish in the Hank Smith Invitational Saturday at Heath High School.

Austin Gillinger won the 100 (:11.0) and 200 (:22.78) and Leo Crosby was first in the shot (53-9) and fourth in the discus (136-6) to pace the Blue Devils, who finished with 54 points. Sunbury Big Walnut won the meet with 128.

The boys 400 relay also came in second (:44.5), and Ben Kaufman placed third in the long jump (20-11) and fourth in the high jump (6-0).

Tri-Valley’s Kaylee Antill led the Scotties to a fourth in the girls race with 62 points, after winning the the discus (145-3) and shot (41-6), while teammate Allie Farmer came in second in both events with a distance of 121-5 in the discus and 40-10 in the shot.

Morgan Anderson, Rylie Sterling, Chelsie Babcock and Meghan Anderson won the 400 relay (:53.82), the 800 relay came in third (1:52.67), and Justine Gibbon was third in the high jump (4-10) for Tri-Valley.

The Sheridan boys finished third (51) as Justin Snider won the high jump (6-4), Joey Palumbo came in second in the 800 (2:03.28), the 3200 relay was third (8:26), and the 1600 relay came in fourth (3:37.5). Ryan Powell was fourth in the pole vault (12-0).

Bryce Goss, Logan Bash, Marcus Hawkins and Jordan Jones were first in the 400 relay (:44.39) to lead the Scottie boys, who were ninth (36), while Hawkins was the runner-up in the 300 hurdles (:41.73) and fourth in the 200 (:23.34) and Cameron Little took fourth in the shot (49-0).

Rosecrans’ Sam Swackhammer won the 100 hurdles (:16.11) and took second in the 300 hurdles (:47.35), Emily Nash was fourth in the 100 hurdles (:17.82) and the 400 relay came in fourth (:54.1) as the Bishops were 12th with 28 points.

Katy Foltz was second in the 3200 (12:46) and Emily Taylor was third in the shot (36-10) for the Sheridan girls, who were 14th (22).

Hallie Kimble took third in the 400 (1:01.87) and fourth in the 800 (2:31.19) and Jade Johnson placed fourth in the long jump (15-1 1/2) for the Zanesville girls, who were 13th (23).

Maysville boys, Morgan girls third at Warren

Connor Wright won the 1600 (4:32.9) and was third in the 3200 (10:31.9) for Maysville, which finished third of 10 teams at the Vincent Warren Invitational.

Morgan was fourth (63) and Philo sixth (38). Warren won with 171.

Other highlights for Maysville were Laken Bunting’s win in the pole vault (11-0), Morgan Browning’s third-place showing in the discus (127-0), Chase Himmelspach’s third in the long jump, Kaige Rucker’s third in the triple jump and Alec Shook’s third in the shot (44-9 1/2). Maysville’s 400 relay (:46.8) and 800 relay (1:40.9) were also third.

Foulon Sheppard was fourth in the 100 (:11.6), Max Cooper fourth in the high jump (5-8) and Tristan Murphy fourth in the triple jump (33-6).

Payton Henderson won the discus (149-8) and was second in the shot (45-3 1/4), while Dasean Goldsmith took second in the 100 (:11.5). Philo’s 800 relay was also second.

Colin Veyon was second in the 110 high hurdles (:16.6) and 300 hurdles (:42.5) and John Thompson second in the pole vault (10-0) for Morgan, which also took second in the 1600 relay (3:51.7), third in the 3200 relay (9:08.6) and fourth in the 400 relay (:47.8).

Andrew Buchanan was third in the 200 (:24.1), Brody Veyon third in the 400 (:54.7) and Trace Schaad fourth in the 800 (2:12.7) for the Raiders.

In the girls meet, Waterford took first (95) of 10 teams and Warren was second (80 1/2), followed by Morgan (77 1/2), Philo (75) and Jackson (73).

Sarah Beam won the triple jump and 300 hurdles (:52.4) and was fourth in the long jump (14-11) for Morgan. Jozi Brown was second in the 3200 (13:15.7) and third in the 1600 (5:57.4).

Alyssa Tabler was second in the pole vault for Morgan; Savannah Niceswanger was second in the triple jump (25-2), Cira Myers fourth in the 100 hurdles (:18.1) and the Raiders were second in the 3200 relay (11:07.9).

Alexus Bell won the discus (110-0) and Mariah Lewellen was fourth (95-9) for Maysville; Taylor Touvell was second in the shot (34-0 3/4), Peyton Morrow third in the 3200 (13:23.3) Philo’s Kendel Holdren was fourth (30-10) in the shot.

Maysville was also fourth in the 400 relay.

Sam Evans was fourth in the high jump for Philo, while she teamed with Taylor Evans, Ellie Wolfe and Karly Bruns to win the 800 relay (1:54.9), ran with Taylor Evans, Bruns and Alexandria Mulvaney on the winning 400 relay (:53.6) and was on the winning 1600 relay with Mulvaney, Shelby Baker and Ellie Wolfe that finished in 4:39.6.

Bruns and Mulvaney were second (1:02.5) and fourth (1:06.3), respectively, in the 400. Bruns was second in the 200 (:27.1) and Taylor Evans was third (:27.2).

• Morgan also sent a handful of athletes to the Mansfield Mehock Relays, where Jordan Penrod won the 3200 (11:43) and Cheyenne Hanson was seventh (12:16).

Jasmine Penrod took fifth in the 800 (2:26.9).
