5 things to know about ... Zach Rieman

CLYDE — The Clyde football team doesn’t have a lot of seniors, but receiver/defensive back Zach Rieman is one of them.

In Week 1, he caught a pair of passes for 36 yards, including a 31-yard grab early in the third quarter that set up the Fliers’ first touchdown in a 15-8 win over Tiffin Columbian. Although his catch gave the Fliers the spark they needed, that is not the reason his coaches and teammates call him Sparky.

Q: Your nickname is Sparky. Why?

ZR: Eighth-grade year, my teacher, Mr. Cahill, we were watching a movie, he thought I looked like someone in the movie. It was called “Home in Indiana,” it’s an old-time movie and he thought I looked him. That’s how Sparky started.

Q: What’s you biggest pet peeve?

ZR: When people scratch their teeth with forks. By far. I can’t stand it. It’s the sound, I don’t know.

Q: What’s your biggest fear?

ZR: Spiders. I hate spiders. I can deal with snakes and everything but spiders, nope.

Q: Favorite class in school?

ZR: Math. I’ve always excelled in it and I’ve always enjoyed it ... somewhat. More than other classes.

Q: Any plans for after graduation?

ZR: I want to attend Ohio State. If something else comes up, or if I know what I want to major in, I might choose another school, but that’s probably my main goal right now, is to go to Ohio State.
