CHILLICOTHE – Chillicothe City Schools has approved the hiring of a new athletic director who says he hopes to take the district to the next level.

The Chillicothe Board of Education on Monday approved Michael Barren to take over as athletic director after the January resignation of Will Brown, who accepted an opportunity to work for the federal government in the Dayton area.

Brown had served as athletic director for the past 21/2 years.

Barren, who runs his own law firm in Columbus, said he wants athletes in the district to have a positive athletic experience and thanked Superintendent Jon Saxton, school board members and the community for their support.

"What I like to see is that our athletes are prepared," Barren said.

Barren, who resides in Worthington with his wife, Winkie, has three adult children — Nick, Pat and Christine — who each played three sports at Thomas Worthington High School and college sports at Mount Union College, Williams College and the University of Michigan, respectively.

Barren will earn $47,684.72 in his capacity as athletic director for the 2015-16 school year.
