WAVERLY — One man was arrested and charged with endangering children after the death of an infant Sunday.

The Ross County Sheriff’s Office responded to an unresponsive male infant in the 2000 block of Valley Road about 8 a.m. Sunday morning. The infant was pronounced dead when deputies arrived.

The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head. Authorities are still investigating how the infant was injured.

Daniel Gilbert, 37, was arrested and charged with endangering children. He is being held in the Ross County jail under a $50,000 bond, according to the sheriff’s office.

Ross County Prosecutor Matt Schmidt said that, because of the infant's injuries, Gilbert knew the child was injured but did not seek treatment.

Schmidt said other children in the home were placed with relatives.

The incident is under investigation.
