Van Fossen wins Salt Fork junior tourney

Staff report

CAMBRIDGE – Dylan Van Fossen’s torrid summer on the junior golf circuit continued on Monday.

Van Fossen, a junior-to-be at John Glenn, shot 3-over-par 74 to win the 15-16-year-old division at the Salt Fork Junior Tournament at Salt Fork Golf Course.

Van Fossen’s win followed his recent victory at the Zanesville District Golf Association Junior Amateur on June 23 at Jaycees. On July 1, he shot 5-under 67 to win a First National Bank Junior Tour event at Cambridge Country Club.

He finished four shots ahead of Zoarville Tuscarawas Valley’s Landen Thompson, who was second with 78. They were the only players to break 80 in the division.

Van Fossen helped lead the Muskies to a third-place finish at the Division II state tournament as a sophomore.

Tri-Valley’s Dalton Crowley was fourth with 86 and Zanesville’s Jace Ruggerio seventh with 88. Philo’s Liam Blake and John Glenn’s Billy Mitchell shot 94.

Maysville’s Makyla Lewellen shot 79 to win the 16-18 girls division, topping Zanesville’s Joslyn Goins (95) and Marietta’s Abigail Siley (125).

Zanesville’s Jewell Goins was third in the 13-15 girls division with 100. Jordan Van Meter of Minerva won with 95.

John Glenn’s Jonah Hanes was fourth with 90 and fellow Muskie Jack Williams fifth with 92 in the 13-14 boys division.
