FREMONT – An inmate at the Sandusky County Jail suffered a broken jaw and was treated at a Toledo Hospital after an altercation with another inmate Tuesday, reports show.

Both inmates told jail deputies they had an altercation but that the injured inmate hurt himself by falling, according to Sandusky County Sheriff's Office reports.

The injured inmate, a 27-year-old man, told deputies he did not want to press charges against the inmate involved, according to the report. No charges have been filed.

The inmate involved in the altercation, a 21-year-old man, was put on lockdown pending any disciplinary action against him, according to reports. He had a cut on his ear and a broken knuckle.

Jail administrator Maj. Tom Fligor was not available for comment on whether the inmate was disciplined or whether charges could be filed.

The injured inmate was released from jail but must report to Judge Barbara Ansted of Sandusky County Common Pleas Court when he is released from the hospital, reports show.

The incident happened around 3:04 p.m. when a deputy radioed for the two inmates involved to come to the medical room for medication, according to reports.

A second deputy was looking into one of the jail blocks and noticed two other inmates were looking into the injured inmate's cell. The deputy then saw the inmate involved in the altercation leave the injured inmate's cell and slam the door, according to reports.

Deputies then found the injured inmate spitting blood into the toilet, and they saw blood on the floor and wall, reports show.

The hurt inmate was taken to the hospital, and the other inmate was medically checked at the jail before being put on lockdown, according to reports.
