LaRue woman wins OSU tickets through Rotary

Marion Star Staff report

MARION – Teresa Hopper plans to make her Michigan Wolverine-loving boyfriend attend at least one of the Ohio State University football games she’ll be attending this season as the winner of the Marion Rotary Club’s OSU season ticket raffle. Her winning ticket was drawn at the Aug. 25 Rotary Club meeting in the Palace Pavilion.

Hopper and partner John Dailey both work at the Marysville Honda facility where they met 13 years ago. She bought her $10 winning ticket from fellow Honda associate Ted Garner.

This is the second year the Marion Rotary Club has held the raffle, which raises money for many of the service club’s civic projects. Most recently, Marion Rotary donated $100,000 toward the Tall Grass Bicycle Trail being constructed along a former railroad right-of-way through western Marion County.

“This year, we raised $5,260 from the OSU football season ticket raffle,” said Don Stone, Marion Rotary president. After paying for the tickets, the club netted $3,946 to fund local service projects. “A special thank you to The Ohio State University at Marion for helping us procure the tickets,” Stone said.

As part of the local club’s charitable foundation, the money raised will go toward the $22,000 in scholarships the club awards each year or any of a dozen or more local grants the club makes annually. Marion Rotary is currently considering transformative projects for the club’s 100th anniversary, which will be celebrated in 2022.

This year’s winner lives near La Rue on a 50-acre farm straddling the Marion-Hardin County line. She is a loyal Buckeye fan.

“This is fantastic,” said Hopper as she received the pair of season tickets. She will drive to the games in the Honda Civic she and Dailey helped produce. Hopper has been a production associate by Honda for 19 years.

“I really enjoy making cars,” she said. And this football season, Teresa Hopper plans to “really enjoy” cheering on the Buckeyes from her A section seats.
