MARION – Early morning patrols Thursday led to three arrests in connection with several recent break-ins at area businesses, law enforcement officials reported.

Those arrested were Michael L. Cummings, 41, address unavailable; Nicole L. Casey, 34, Bucyrus; and Carla J. Daniels, 31, 319 Owens St., Apt. C.

At 2:29 a.m., the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary alarm in the 1500 block of Marion-Waldo Road. Because of an increased number of burglaries, the sheriff’s office and Marion Police Department had detectives collaborating to solve the crimes.

Detectives from both agencies reported they saw a vehicle leaving the area of the alarm, and they said the driver fled after officers attempted to stop his vehicle.

After a short pursuit, the three were apprehended on Somerlot-Hoffman Road and arrested, officials said. Two juveniles also were in the vehicle, but they were not arrested.

Charges submitted to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office include several counts of breaking and entering, possession of criminal tools, tampering with evidence and endangering children. Additional charges, including evading law enforcement, may be filed as well, officials said.

Chief Deputy Al Hayden, with the sheriff’s office, said the investigation is ongoing, but officials believe the three were involved in this incident, a burglary in the 1600 block of Marion Mtount Gilead Road, and several burglaries in Marion. Delaware County sheriff’s deputies also are investigating whether any of them were involved in a recent burglary there as well.

“This could turn into more than what we have (now),” Hayden said.
