ZANESVILLE – The first of two men charged in connection with a December shooting on Woodlawn Avenue has pleaded guilty.

Robert D. Barr, 19, of Nashport, entered the plea to several felonies in connection with the shooting Monday in Muksingum County Common Pleas Court. He was represented by attorney Kirk McVay.

He originally pleaded not guilty Dec. 22 after authorities arrested him in connection with a Dec. 11 shooting in the 1200 block of Woodlawn Avenue that sent two men to the hospital.

Though the wounds were not life-threatening, the victims, men in their mid-20s, were taken to Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital with gunshot wounds from a .22-caliber gun, authorities have said.

Barr was charged with two counts of attempted murder, one count of felonious assault, two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of aggravated burglary. He pleaded guilty to one count of attempted murder, felonious assault and two counts of aggravated robbery. The other two counts will be dismissed at the time of his sentencing. All of the counts came with firearm specifications.

Barr was scheduled to go to trial next week before he changed his plea. A sentencing date has not been set, though Judge Mark Fleegle has ordered a pre-sentence investigation.

Another suspect in the shooting, 18-year-old Deylen M. Wilkey, also awaits a possible trial, though no date has yet been set.

Wilkey, of 533 Cliffwood Ave., pleaded not guilty to eight charges April 8, including two counts of attempted murder.

The first-degree felonious attempted murder charges come with a firearm specification. Wilkey also is charged with two counts of felonious assault, second-degree felonies; two counts of aggravated robbery, first-degree felonies; and aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony. Those counts also come with a firearm specification. He also is charged with tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony.

Barr and Wilkey are inmates at the Muskingum County Jail on $2 million and $1 million bonds, respectively.
