RUSHVILLE – Berne Union's Zack Maust didn't have much time to rest in between his running events Tuesday at the annual Bob Hamm Classic at Fairfield Union, but it didn't seem to matter.

Liberty Union’s Sydnee Mangette, left, makes her move to overtake Fairfield Union’s Jessica Swaim during the 1,600-meter run at Tuesday’s Bob Hamm Classic Invitational at Fairfield Union High School in Rushville.

The senior was the star of the meet, scoring more points (31.25) than any other competitor to take home the boys running MVP.

"I usually have around 10 to 20 minutes in between races, but I'm running every third race," Maust said. "I never get to take my spikes off, but I don't mind."

Maust won the 100 (11.31), 200 (22.80) and 400 (50.44) and was part of the 4x400 relay.

"I'm just trying to keep things clean and run hard until the Mid-State League-Cardinal Division meet, and once that comes, start to turn it," Maust said. "This meet is nice because you get to see all the talent that is in your area and everyone you get to compete with and keeps you humble and lets you know where you stand.

"This meet mainly gets you geared up for your league meet, and then you move on to the district and, hopefully, the regional and state."
