Baseball: Big comeback sends Sheridan past TV

THORNVILLE – Phil Flautt ended a wild game with a game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Sheridan overcame a nine-run deficit to earn a 13-12 win against visiting Tri-Valley on Monday.

Flautt’s big hit came after Nick Thomas singled home two runs to tie it, and after lefty reliever Michael Gittings escaped bases-loaded jams in the sixth and seventh unscathed.

Tri-Valley led 10-1 in the third when a rain delay hit. The Generals (13-10, 9-6) proceeded to score 12 times over the next five innings, including seven times in the third.

Thomas finished with three singles and four RBIs, while Dylan Dupler tripled and singled and Andrew Paxton, Collin Conrad and Flautt singled twice.

Bryce Farmer tripled twice and singled and Nick Slaboden and Blades Bryan doubled and singled for for Tri-Valley (7-11, 5-7), which had 12 hits. Tyler McGee added two singles.

Gittings, who struck out five and walked five, earned the win in 4 2/3 innings of relief.

Zack Carpenter suffered the loss in relief.
