FREMONT – Water slides and diving boards are ready for the hundreds of people expected to take advantage of the Fremont Community Recreation Complex pool this summer.

The pool opens June 6 for its 15th season.

“It’s very popular,” Fremont Parks and Recreation Superintendent Molly Bauman said of the pool. “It’s a place where they can sunbathe.”

The water slides, kids play area and the pool in general are popular with children and people of all ages who want to cool off, she said.

This year, the recreation complex is bringing back a popular event with its late night swims, which last from from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursdays. The pool had offered the swims in the past but discontinued them a few years ago.

“We just wanted to do something fun for the families,” Bauman said. “Swimming under the lights is a different feeling than during the day.”

The recreation center also is offering swim lessons, water aerobics, Splash Camp and two family fun nights that will include a movie by the pool and a cookout.

The pool is staffed with 10 lifeguards, who were training for emergencies Saturday morning, two pool managers and two swim instructors, Bauman said.

It will remain open until late August.
