Fire quickly contained at TenCate

NEWARK – A fire in a furnace was quickly contained Wednesday at TenCate Advanced Armor.

Newark Fire Captain Doug Vermaaten said crews had the fire contained within two minutes of their arrival on scene around 12:30 p.m.

Vermaaten said there was no threat to the building and no injuries were reported.

Old vehicle materials were in a furnace to be destroyed, then overheated and caught fire, he said.

Newark Township provided mutual aid to the 12 Newark personnel who responded.

TenCate workers were allowed back into the building and allowed to return to work Wednesday.
