Memorial Day services set across Coshocton County

COSHOCTON – Several local areas will be hosting events Sunday and Monday to mark Memorial Day.

The largest will be the annual Coshocton parade and services at 10 a.m. Monday. The parade will start at the corner of Main and Eighth streets and finish with services on the Coshocton County Courthouse lawn.

Speakers will be River View senior Elizabeth Lozowski, the Voice of Democracy contest winner; Becky Bowden, of Blue Star Mothers; and Liz Herrell, retired from the U.S. Air Force.

The Coshocton County Honor Guard will perform military services and remember local veterans who have died since last Memorial Day. The 3 MP Quartet of Sweet Adalines International will see a patriotic selection. Female veterans are encouraged to attend for a special recognition.

The Walhondving Valley-Warsaw parade and service will be at 1 p.m. Monday. The parade will start on Railroad Street and go down Main Street with services following at Valley View Cemetery. Lozowki will speak again, along with Vietnam Veteran Larry Pew. The Walhonding Rube Band will play.

Conesville Memorial services will be at 6:30 p.m. at Conesville Park with community members leading names listed on a veterans plaque.

There are three announced events for Sunday.

The 133rd annual Keene Parade and services will start at 9:30 a.m. with Phyllis Debnar speaking about her father, World War II veteran Raymond Pew, at Keene United Methodist Church. Lunch and beverages will be served from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the church. Lister Endsley will be grand marshal for the parade going to the two cemeteries and veterans monument in Keene. The Warsaw American Legion will provide rifle volley.

Chris Hart, of Roscoe Village, will be the guest speaker for an event honoring the armed forces at 2 p.m. at Plainfield Cemetery. The Ridgewood High School band and choir and Plainfield United Methodist Church choir will perform. Community members will read the GAR rituals from the Book of Service and Veterans recognitions. The Coshocton County Veterans Council Honor Guard also will participate.

Services will be at 2 p.m. at the Blissfield Cemetery with Coshocton County Commissioner Gary Fischer as the guest speaker. The Killbuck VFW 7079 will conduct graveside services in honor of Omar Keith Chaney, a Korean War Veteran who died March 21. The Walhonding Rube will play.
