FREMONT – Police are searching for three men who reportedly robbed a store clerk at gunpoint and stole alcohol, cigars and candy — and left a trail of gum, lollipops and other sweets when they ran off.

Arrow of candies

A police report said three Hispanic males entered Koeb’s Korner on Hayes Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. Monday, put a gun to the cashier’s head and ordered her to give them an undisclosed amount of money. They also stole alcohol, 25 black and mild cigars, and large amounts of candy including Big League Chew Bubble Gum, Blow Pop Suckers, Fun Dip, Mentos and Laffy Taffy, according to the report.

“All three suspects were wearing blue bandanas to cover their faces, dark hooded jackets and jeans,” the report said.

The report said the three men split up after fleeing the store and were headed north toward the playground at Hayes School. There were trails of candy in three directions and along the sidewalks on South Wayne Street and north on Garrison Street, the report said.

The report said the three men entered as the cashier was closing the store for the night. She told police the men came through the east entrance after she had locked the front door.

The men were waving black handguns and the clerk told police she thought at first it was a prank.

The cashier told police that an hour before the robbery she saw a man wearing a hooded jacket and surgical mask walking outside the store, the report said.

Police are looking for the three males, believed to be between the ages of 19 and 30, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall with thin builds.
