WOODVILLE – Woodville police are asking residents to avoid keeping cash or valuables in their vehicles and to lock the doors after recent thefts from cars.

A theft from a vehicle was reported early Wednesday, and there were three entries in the same general area of the north side of U.S. 20 over the weekend, Chief Roy Whitehead said.

So far, nothing but small amounts of cash have been taken, Whitehead said.

Just before the Wednesday theft was reported, a Woodville police officer saw three people in dark hooded sweatshirts walking around 1 a.m. on North Cherry Street.

“As he approached, they took off running,” Whitehead said.

Police believe the thieves are older teens or young adults, he said.

Two of the cars entered on Sunday were unlocked. A rock was used to break a window to entered the third car, which was locked, Whitehead said.
