News Journal staff report

MANSFIELD – Two Ashland women reportedly overdosed on drugs Tuesday in the driveway of a vacant house in the 800 block of Hollywood Lane.

A third woman sought medical attention for them, according to Mansfield police.

A 21-year-old Ashland woman in the vehicle called 911 saying she believed the two women, ages 54 and 33, were possibly overdosing on drugs.

Mansfield Fire Department personnel were providing medical attention to both women when police arrived.

The reportee said she did not know the women, but they were friends of her sister’s and giving her a ride home to her apartment when they began to slump over and shake, according to the police report.

An officer asked the 21-year-old woman if she had anything illegal on her person, and she replied she had collected syringes and possible drugs from both women so they “wouldn’t get in trouble,” according to the police report. Two syringes and a bag of suspected heroin were located in her purse. The vehicle was towed.

The two women were issued summonses on drug-related charges and released pending their court dates as they were taken by squad for treatment. Both were later discharged from OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield Hospital.

The woman who reported the possible overdose was issued a summons for possession of drug paraphernalia and taken to the Richland County Jail.

Evidence including heroin was weighed and submitted to the crime lab for testing. Future charges may be issued upon results, according to the police report.
