Car club will feature station wagons at June show

LANCASTER – There was a time when auto manufacturers made station wagon editions available for many of their top models, such as the Chevrolet Impala and Ford Galaxy.

Those days might be long gone, but the station wagon will be the focus of the Lancaster Old Car Club’s 52nd annual Spring Festival Car Show and Swap Meet on June 6 and 7 at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds.

“We used to have orphan cars, or cars that are not made anymore,” club President Tammie Colosky said. “A group of us were talking, and we decided that wagons would be a really neat type of vehicle to feature.”

The station wagons will be from 1996 and before. While the show is aimed at older cars, new cars are also welcome.

“We’ll have all kinds of vehicles,” Colosky said. “Camaros, Dodges, modified cars, street rods, motorcycles and even old fire engines.”

Besides the numerous types of cars, the show will have food and various items for sale, including some of the featured vehicles in the show. Colosky said there were six or seven cars sold last year.

The show will feature 22 classes of vehicles with three awards given out per class. There will also be a non-denominational religious service at 9:30 a.m. June 7.

The annual show is the club’s biggest event of the year.

“When the weather is good, it usually turns out really, really well,” Colosky said.

She said good weather can attract about 3,000 visitors for the weekend. Colosky said some of the money raised from the event goes to local charities and scholarship funds. Admission is free, but there is a $5 fee for parking. Events on both days will start at 8 a.m.

The car show is always held on the first full weekend of June.
