Resident taken to LMH after small house fire

Advocate staff report

NEWARK – A man was taken to Licking Memorial Hospital early Wednesday after a house fire on Eddy Street.

The fire was reported shortly after 2:10 a.m. on the 300 block of Eddy Street, Assistant Chief Tom O’Brien said.

The fire started around an oxygen machine and was contained to the machine and the area immediately around it, O’Brien said.

The resident was taken to LMH with burn injuries, O’Brien said.

The fire was quickly knocked down and remains under investigation.

Damage was estimated at about $1,000.

The fire marked the last run from the Newark Division of Fire’s old station in downtown Newark. The department is moving into a newly constructed building Wednesday.
