Oak Harbor man dies in two-vehicle crash

CARROLL TOWNSHIP – An Oak Harbor man died Saturday after a two-vehicle crash on Salem Carroll and Behlman. He was not wearing his seat belt, a release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Mark A. Swift, 66, a passenger in one of the cars, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, James E. Swift Sr., 86, also of Oak Harbor, was taken by LifeFlight to St. Vincent's Emergency room for injuries sustained in the crash. He was wearing his seat belt, according to the release. The severity of his injuries are unknown.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 1994 GMC 2500 pickup truck, Chris A. Lawley, 26, Oak Harbor, was taken by EMS to Magruder Hospital's emergency room for injuries sustained in the crash. The severity of the injuries is unknown.

The release states Lawley was westbound on Salem Carroll Road at a stop sign.

Swift, northbound in a 2004 Chevrolet Venture Van, failed to yield at a stop sign where Lawley's truck crashed into the van overturning it off the northwest side of the road.

Assisting the patrol was the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, Carroll Township Police and Oak harbor Police.

The accident occurred at 1:33 p.m.

No charges have been filed at this time.
