MTC presidential search committee revises plan

Special to The Marion Star

MARION – Marion Technical College Board of Trustees elects to take a thoughtful pause to consider the next steps in the search for a new president, a news release states.

After an extensive nationwide search, one of the top two finalists accepted a position at another community college.

“A top candidate withdrew because he was offered another presidency,” said Rex Parrott, chairman of the board of trustees. “This directly speaks to the quality of our process.”

However, Parrott and the nominating committee need more than one qualified finalist to consider for this key role with the college. Because of that, the board of directors decided Tuesday night to interview a select group of interim presidential candidates, allowing them time to reopen the search and attract a new pool of candidates.

“We want to take the time we need to ensure that we select the right person to serve our students and the community,” Parrott said.

He said the board was unanimous in its pleasure with the commitment of the nominating committee and the entire college community as the search team takes the necessary next steps to ensure a successful search. The timeline is to open the search again in August and have the president in place as soon as possible.

The Pauly Group is assisting with the presidential search, which began in January.

MTC reviewed 32 candidates. The nominating committee interviewed 10 qualified semifinalists.
