Pleasant rolls by RV in baseball

CALEDONIA – Pleasant scored seven runs over the last three innings to beat River Valley 11-2 in Mid Ohio Athletic Conference baseball on Friday.

Pleasant improves to 9-1 in the MOAC as the Red Division leader and to 13-6 overall. River Valley fell to 3-6 and 4-10.

Kyle Galyk batted in three runs with four hits for the Spartans. Tyler Axline plated three runners with a pair of hits, Zach Pytlarz had two hits and a like number of RBIs, Caden Lawrence swatted three hits, and Matt Gabriel and Chase Ambrose added two hits apiece. Ambrose and Bryce McDonald each added an RBI.

Ambrose was the winning pitcher with relief help from McDonald and Galyk.

Alec Branstetter smacked a double and recorded an RBI for RV. Tom Poorman also had a hit and run batted in, and Weston Perry and Matt Wilch each hit a single.

Fredericktown 18, Mount Gilead 8

MOUNT GILEAD – Fredericktown downed Mount Gilead 18-8 in a battle between the top two teams in the MOAC Blue Division.

Fredericktown is now 8-1 in league play to lead the division and 15-1 overall. Mount Gilead is 6-1 in the conference and 11-1 in all games.

The Freddies trailed 8-5 before a 10-run fourth inning gave them the edge for good.

Austin Hathaway smacked four hits to lead Fredericktown.

Xavier Harris and Ben Hayes each batted in two runs for Mount Gilead as Harris singled and doubled and Hayes singled. Tyler Bland smacked a double for the Indians, Nick Arrington singled twice, and Isaiah and Alex Coder each poked a hit.

Ridgedale 20, Gahanna Christian 2

MORRAL – Ridgedale scored 11 runs in the first inning en route to a 20-2 non-league triumph over Gahanna Christian.

Jacob Cannon smacked two doubles and a single to knock in four runs for the Rockets (5-8). Derek Lust singled three times and had two RBIs, Mo Britton doubled, Alex Eldred had a single and RBI, Cole Blair doubled in two runs, Kole Fisher had a single and four RBIs, Trevor Wren singled in two runs, and Quinten Bails hit a single.

Winning pitcher Mitchill Reasoner (1-3) allowed only four hits by Gahanna Christian (2-10).

Softball

River Valley 9, Pleasant 3

CALEDONIA – River Valley improved to 13-4 overall and to 7-2 in the MOAC with a 9-3 conquest of Pleasant.

A trio of three-run innings did the trick for the Lady Vikings.

Cambry Arnold singled three times for RV. Madi Myers and Sha Call each hit a single and double, Alexis Reichardt singled twice, Cassady Starkey swatted a double, and Morgan Lott and Kylie Lang each singled.

Tennis

River Valley 3, Pleasant 2

MARION – A sweep of doubles helped River Valley down Pleasant 3-2.

Jon Culler and Lance DeLong of RV beat Garrett Coppler and Allen Zhang 6-3, 7-6 while Jordyn Jackson and Nic Gottshall won 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 over Chris Wiley and Zac Haverfield.

The lone River Valley singles win came from Manny Acuna, who beat Grant Wilson 6-1, 6-0.

Pleasant’s Christian Vaflor defeated Luke Hundley 6-1, 6-1 and Drayson Campbell downed Thomas Starrs 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
