CARROLL TOWNSHIP – An Oak Harbor man is in critical condition after he crashed his pickup into some trees early Wednesday on Russell Road.

Henry M. Gerschutz, 42, who was not wearing a seat belt, was seriously hurt and is being treated at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol and Ohio Investigative Unit are investigating the crash and took a blood sample from Gerschutz, said Sgt. Eric Short of the patrol’s Sandusky post.

The crash happened at 2:15 a.m. when Gertschutz was northbound in a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500 on Russell Road near Ohio 2, according to the patrol.

His truck went off the left side of the road and struck several small trees before hitting a large tree.
