RUSHVILLE – As a sophomore, Mount Gilead’s Olivia Brewer wasn’t sure what to expect heading into Friday’s Division III regional finals at Fairfield Union, but she knew she felt good heading into her events.

She felt even better after qualifying for the state meet in two events — the 100 and 200. Brewer finished second in the 100 (12:53) and second in the 200 (26.31) to punch her ticket.

“I really didn’t expect all of this, but it is really exciting,” Brewer said. “I felt really good and everything fell into place.”

Jenna Shipman also qualified for the state meet in the long jump by finishing fourth (16-2).

“It wasn’t my best, but there is a lot of really good competition here,” Shipman said. “My goal from day one was to make it to state. My best is 17-4, and I’m just excited to get another chance to see if I can do better.”

The Indians 4x400 relay team, consisting of Rachel Bush, Bryanna Bolha, Morgan Brooke and Shipman, had a fourth-place finish (4:05.15) to qualify.

There were also several competitors that just missed qualifying with fifth-place finishes.

Bush finished fifth in the 300 hurdles (46.33), Rebecca Kindred was fifth in the 100 hurdles (16:25) and the Indians’ 4x100 relay team of Makaylee Elkin, Kindred, Hannah Scott and Brewer also placed fifth (51.84).

Other local finishers included Cardington’s Jacob Long, who finished fifth in the 1,600 (4:30.65), and Northmor’s Alisha Pletcher, who was sixth in the discus (110-07). Mount Gilead’s Savannah Randall was seventh (109-10).

Ridgedale’s Laney Davis was seventh in the high jump (5-1) and the Rockets’ Duvan Bautista was seventh in the 800 (2:05.95).
