Eagle-Gazette wins 9 AP awards

COLUMBUS – The Lancaster Eagle-Gazette took home nine awards from the Associated Press Media Editors of Ohio during its annual meeting Sunday.

The haul included one first-place award, five second-place awards and three third-place awards in Division II, the second-smallest division of papers in Ohio.

The winners were:

•Spencer Roush took second place for Best Community Service for a series of stories about overdose victims, and second for Best Investigative Reporting for a story about a family seeking justice for Victoria Sisco, who died after a car crash under mysterious circumstances.

•Matthew Berry took second in Best Graphics Artist and second for Best Illustration.

•Jess Grimm took third for Best Photographer.

•Jim Sabin took first for Best Editorial Writer.

•The overall staff took third for Best Special Section (Lancaster Festival Preview), second for Full Page Layout and third for Best Illustration.

In addition, a series of stories, High in Ohio, that published in the Eagle-Gazette and other papers owned by Gannett, took first place in the best enterprise category in Division III, the largest division in which the work appeared.
