ODOT starts installing road signs along I-70

Staff report

BUCKEYE LAKE — The Ohio Department of Transportation began installing signs along the exit ramp from Interstate 70 to Ohio 37 on Thursday to advertise Buckeye Lake businesses affected by lowered water levels.

"There are three sets of signs to be installed. This first set, the directional signs, will go up after the exit ramp so drivers know where to go after they leave I-70," ODOT spokeswoman Ericka Pfeifer said.

The signs are being installed in reverse order to avoid confusion for drivers and visitors, she said.

"Once the directional signs are up, the next set will be for the ramps. These signs are going to list the businesses in the area," Pfeifer said.

The final set of signs also will list the businesses and will be placed along I-70. She said all the signs should be in place by the end of next week.

The color of the new signs differs from that of normal roadside attraction signs.

"The signs are typically blue and white. However, because the lake is a state construction project, they're going to be orange and black," she said.

Pfeifer said the signs' color will help grab drivers' attention.
