MARION – A man wanted in connection with a Detroit homicide was captured Friday evening.

Marion Police Chief Bill Collins said an undercover agent spotted Tywaun Tabba Stewart as a passenger in a vehicle near the eastern edge of the city. Police stopped his vehicle at the intersection of East Center Street and Madison Avenue shortly after 6 p.m.

"We were able tot get him out of the car without incident," Collins said.

"This is a great way to end a Friday."

A female driver, believed to be the owner of the vehicle Stewart was found in, is not a suspect at this time according to Collins.

Stewart, 22, was taken to the Multi-County Correctional Center without incident.

Maj. Jay McDonald said agents from the United States Marshals Service of the Northern District of Ohio were tipped off that Stewart may be in the Marion area. Officials launched a citywide search beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday with assistance from the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

"We checked all over last night looking for him," McDonald said.

Collins said police have dealt with Stewart before. He has been known under several aliases, including Dez'Juan Jackson or Garrett Cole locally.

McDonald said Stewart is the lead suspect in a shooting that occurred on the west side of Detroit more than two years ago. Officials said a suspect shot two victims at a Columbus Street home, killing one Detroit teenager.

"Stewart is a dangerous man who needs to be in jail instead of wandering the streets," McDonald said.
