BELLEVUE – A man was hurt and taken to a hospital after a fire at his home on Ohio 113 on Saturday morning, a firefighter said.

North Central Emergency Medical Service took the man to a hospital before the fire department arrived, and authorities did not have any information on his condition or where he was taken.

The Huron County Sheriff's Office was first on scene of the fire at the single-story home, 6300 Ohio 113, according to Bellevue police.

The man was the only person home, Bellevue firefighter Brian Ackerman said.

Firefighters rescued two dogs and two cats, and the animals were doing well, Ackerman said.

The fire started in the kitchen around 9:30 a.m., and fire officials are trying to determine the cause. They suspect a faulty toaster might have ignited the blaze, Ackerman said.

Damage was mostly confined to the kitchen, and there was smoke damage throughout the house, he said. He did not have a damage estimate.

Bellevue firefighters were called to the scene at 9:37 a.m. and remained there for three hours, Ackerman said.
