Area may see rain, not snow

Staff report

FREMONT – Sandusky County and surrounding areas might see rain, not snow, Tuesday as the area looks for a possible break in the recent winter weather and a hint at the start of spring 2015.

The National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures in the 20s Monday followed by snow turning to rain Tuesday morning. Tuesday’s high temperature is forecast to be 41, with precipitation amounts between 1/4 and 1/2 inch possible in Sandusky County.

That rain-snow mix is expected to continue overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning, with temperatures dipping into the single digits overnight Wednesday and Thursday.

Temperatures are expected to rise into the lower 30s by Saturday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service’s extended forecast.

Though the area’s snowfall totals have not approached the record-setting levels of the 2014 winter season, recent cold weather has resulted in several school day cancellations at Sandusky County school districts.

The National Weather Service is forecasting that Tuesday’s weather system will start out as snow or freezing rain before turning to all rain by the afternoon.

The service is projecting precipitation to reach up to 3/4 inch in some areas, with the combination of runoff and melting snow leading to chance of flooding in the area.
