Hydrant purchases on council agenda

CHILLICOTHE – Chillicothe City Council will consider fire hydrants, residential parking and water tanks when it meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in council chambers on the second floor of 26 S. Paint St.

Two of the items on council’s six-item agenda will be on the second of three readings. One would appropriate $150,000 for the purchase of new fire hydrants to replace obsolete and aging hydrants, while the other addresses a prohibition against parking on front or side yards and addressing the penalty for doing so.

Council’s other four items include an ordinance appropriating $25,000 to pay Poling Law Firm for expenses associated with ongoing Bureau of Worker’s Compensation litigation; an ordinance appropriating $25,000 to hire Liquid Engineering to perform interior tank inspections on the city’s five water distribution tanks; a resolution authorizing an application to participate in the Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Allocation Program for fiscal year 2015 and to accept the grant if funded; and an ordinance to approve a change order in the contract with Pandey Environmental and to appropriate $4,850 for preparation of a sampling and analysis plan for groundwater at the landfill.

In other meeting news this week:

•The Ross County Commissioners moved their regular weekly meet to Tuesday because of the Memorial Day holiday. The commissioners have no scheduled morning appointments when they convene at 9 a.m. in the commissioners’ office at the Ross County Courthouse, but will take part in a 1:30 p.m. joint meeting with the Pickaway County Board of Commissioners in Pickaway County regarding the Wolf Run Group ditch maintenance assessments in Pickaway County.

•The Waverly Board of Education will meet in special session at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the high school study hall for the purpose of reviewing financial reports and personnel.
