ZANESVILLE – Muskingum County Treasurer Carol Friel resigned from her position Monday for personal reasons.

Friel had served as treasurer for the county for the past three years.

“Personal reasons make it important for me to resign,” she said.

Pat Hennessey, chairman of the Muskingum County Republican Party, said the position will be filled by appointment in no less than five days and no more than 45 days.

Hennessey and other republican leaders and committee members will meet and discuss with people interested in filling the position. He said he wasn’t worried about finding someone who could fill the position and do a good job.

He said they would be looking for someone who would be able to devote the time to the office.

“It’ll be a full-time job for that person,” he said.

The appointment would finish Friel’s term, which ends in 2016, Hennessey said.
