Phil's Seafood nears 30 years

ZANESVILLE – Every item on the menu at Phil's Seafood is made-to-order. There are no heat lamps, and the food doesn't sit around between the kitchen and the dining room. And more than anything else, customers like the broiled delight.

The broiled delight is scallops, shrimp, oysters, scrod and crab meat, served with butter and special seasoning. On a single Friday, an average of 30 or more broiled delights are ordered and prepared. Throughout the week, more than 100 will be served, easily, said Phil's Seafood owner Marcia Sikora.

"We know how to cook seafood," she said.

Phil's Seafood is located at 2207 Linden Ave. and opens Monday through Saturday at 4 p.m.

There are some local restaurants that still serve seafood in Zanesville, but that kind of food gets harder and harder to serve every year, Sikora said. In places like New England, seafood is a lot more accessible.

Prices have increased across the board, but seafood has gone up 300 percent, Sikora said.

"It's hard," she said.

Next year, Phil's Seafood will have been in Zanesville for 30 years.

"I think what's kept us around is our clientele," Sikora said. "Most of the customers are like family."

There are people who have gone to Phil's Seafood for years and years, and they keep coming back. Some don't even look at the menu anymore — they know exactly what they want. Many times it's the broiled delight.

Becky Mitzel, a longtime customer at Phil's Seafood, said she comes because she likes the food and she likes to support local businesses.

"I usually get some sort of shrimp," she said.
