New stadium in ‘good shape’ despite weather delays

PORT CLINTON – Despite a summer of record rainfall causing occasional construction delays, the new True-Lay Stadium renovations are approaching completion and the stadium is in “good shape.”

Originally slated to be finished on Aug. 1, the weather took a toll on the construction schedule, but there are just a few major items still on the itinerary: the track and the scoreboard, Port Clinton City Schools Superintendent Pat Adkins said.

“We’ve had some weather issues with getting the track down,” Adkins said. “The track company got delayed, but they are here now.”

With the company here, he said, they’re looking toward the end of next week for the track surface to be completely laid and finished. The new red-colored surface will be laid on top of the current asphalt base already in place.

The next major step and perhaps last big piece, the scoreboard, is expected to be delivered next week.

“Outside of those two items, everything looks on track for wrapping things up at the end of this week,” Adkins said. “We have some cleaning up of the site to do, obviously, some detail work.”

One of the bigger issues throughout the renovations process was the delivery of the new press box, Adkins said, but when it finally arrived on Wednesday, cranes were on site for it to be set in place.

“Outside of the track surface and the scoreboard, we’re pretty comfortable with everything else,” he said.
