GUERNSEY COUNTY – Authorities arrested and charged a Kimbolton man and woman after reportedly finding the couple intoxicated while driving with a 2-year-old child.

Patricia M. Taylor

Todd A. Durbin, 42, and Patricia M. Taylor, 57, were taken into custody and remain at the Guernsey County jail on $565,000 bonds, records show. Both are charged with child endangering, a misdemeanor. Taylor also faces a misdemeanor OVI charge.

The pair were arrested Wednesday at the Circle K on Clark Street in Cambridge after police received a call of two drunken adults with a child in a blue Buick.

According to the report, officers confiscated hundreds of pills and a number of pill bottles, most suspected of containing alproazolam and other pain relievers, according to the report. One confiscated bag contained an “unknown sticky substance.” The pills were not prescribed to either Durbin or Taylor

Taylor appeared Thursday in Cambridge Municipal Court and pleaded not guilty to the charges. A trial is set for Sept. 15.

Durbin pleaded guilty as charged and is scheduled for sentencing next Thursday.

Children services took custody of the child and the vehicle was towed from the parking lot.

According to the incident report from Cambridge police, Taylor was preparing to drive away from the store when officers arrived on the scene.

Both Taylor and Durbin showed signs of intoxication, police noted in the report.

Taylor appeared “very lethargic and slurring her speech” as she stumbled on her feet, the officer noted. She admitted to drinking “a couple beers.”

Taylor failed several blood-alcohol and field sobriety tests, according to the report. At the station, she attempted to give a urine sample with the sample container upside down.

Durbin was found in the passenger seat, hunched over and drooling at the mouth. A soda he had purchased at Circle K was spilling on him, according to the report. He admitted to officers that he had been drinking and had taken two Xanax pills.

Both Durbin and Taylor are listed as living at 222 Main St. in Kimbolton.

Both could face more charges as the investigation continues.
