Mail scam comes to PC saying recipient won $2 million

Staff report

PORT CLINTON – After a series of phone scams from callers claiming to be I.R.S agents, the Port Clinton Police Department is now receiving complaints from residents of a mail scam seeking bank account information.

Dectective Sgt. Corbin Carpenter posted on the department's Facebook page a piece of mail received by a resident stating the resident was the winner of $2 million from an organization in Kansas City, Kansas.

Carpenter said in the post that the company asks the recipient to give bank account information so money can be transferred into the recipient's account. But instead of transferring funds into the account, money is withdrawn.

Any resident receiving this mail is asked to notify Port Clinton police.
