Man gets 6 months for police chase

Staff report

FREMONT – A Clyde man will spend six months in Sandusky County Jail for leading authorities on a police chase last summer that ended in Erie County.

Brandon Cooksey, 33, pleaded guilty on Tuesday in Sandusky County Common Pleas Court to one misdemeanor count of failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer.

Judge Barbara Ansted then sentenced him to the jail term and ordered him to pay $1,200 to the Sandusky County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit.

She also suspended his driver's license for 6 months.

Cooksey was initially charged with felony fleeing and eluding a police officer. The chase took place in July on Ohio 101 when a sheriff's deputy tried to stop Cooksey's vehicle for speeding.

The chase continued to Erie County, and Cooksey was eventually stopped near Castalia.
