News Journal staff report

MANSFIELD – Two people are in custody following an attempted robbery Monday afternoon at BP, 1020 National Parkway.

The reported incident happened around 3 p.m. Mansfield police Officer Sara Mosier-Napier said a man entered the BP station to gauge the number of employees, then left.

His female accomplice, wearing sunglasses and a hoodie, then entered the station and gave the cashier a note demanding money, Mosier-Napier said.

The woman made off with about $300. With the help of Sam, Mosier-Napier’s K-9 partner, police arrested her soon thereafter at Motel 6. Mosier-Napier said the note was found in a trash can. The man was arrested at Bob Evans Restaurant next door.

Police declined to release the suspects’ names at press time.
