Cardington-Lincoln inches closer to title

CARDINGTON – Cardington-Lincoln inched closer to a Mid Ohio Athletic Conference championship in softball with a 13-3 win over Fredericktown on Monday.

The Lady Pirates are 11-0 in MOAC play with three league games remaining. They have a two-game lead over Fredericktown (8-2) in the loss column in conference play.

Samantha Brininger had three hits, including two doubles, and four RBIs for Cardintgton-Lincoln while Alyson Adams doubled twice. Aubrey Clark and Riley Partlow also had two hits, and Makenna McClure, Khyla Jones and Brooke Snyder had one hit each.

Ridgedale 2, Carey 0

CAREY – Ridgedale handed Carey its first Northern 10 loss, 2-0 on Monday.

Hannah Ferguson struck out four in the win, which left Carey 7-1 in the N10 and 10-3 overall. The Lady Rockets plated two runs in the top of the seventh to win.

Brooke Wollott singled and doubled for Ridgedale, Brooke Bullock and Caitlyn Lust each had a hit, and Chelsie Brenzo knocked in a run.

Leah Kuhman singled and doubled to lead Carey.

Highland 10, Northmor 0

SPARTA – Megan Oder hurled a five-inning no-hitter as Highland beat Northmor 10-0 in the MOAC.

Oder struck out 10 and walked two for Highland (7-6, 4-3). Hailey Moore hit a two-run homer and two singles, Mikayla Robinson doubled twice, Samantha Thompson hit a double, and Parker Steck and Kelsey Waters each had two hits.

Northmor is 8-5 and 5-5.

Pleasant 3, Buckeye Valley 0

MARION – Georgie Stacy tossed a six-hitter as Pleasant downed Buckeye Valley 3-0 in the MOAC.

Stacy struck out nine, and she singled and doubled at the plate for Pleasant (6-8). Ashley Stone smacked two hits for the Lady Spartans, and Abigail Russell, Allison Decker, Taylor Chase and Adriana Stanford each hit a single.

River Valley 16, Jonathan Alder 5

CALEDONIA River Valley won 16-5 as Mackenzie Warner hit three singles and CC Keplar, Josey Morrow, Shaelynn Bonsel and Toni Mathews each had two singles. Amy Poorman was the winning pitcher for RV (10-2).

Baseball

Mount Gilead 5, Elgin 2

MOUNT GILEAD – Xavier Harris pitched a complete game and did not allow an earned run as Mount Gilead beat Elgin 5-2.

Harris struck out 10 and had one hit for the Indians (12-1, 7-1). Ben Hayes poked three hits, and Tyler Bland, Isaiah Harris, and Jake Wayt each had a hit.

Noah Haynes hit a double for Elgin (9-10, 4-4) while Bryston Williams, Cantyn Belmer, Ryan Bakies, Austin Spicer, and Caleb Lynch each had a hit.

Ridgedale 8, Carey 1

CAREY – Mo Britton did not allow an earned run in a complete-game performance during Ridgedale’s 8-1 N10 victory over Carey.

Britton (4-2) struck out six, and he also hit a single against Carey (6-10).

Jake Cannon singled and doubled for Ridgedale (7-8), Derek Lust singled twice, and Alex Eldred, Quinten Bails, Cole Blair and Kole Fisher all singled.

Jonathan Alder 3, River Valley 1

CALEDONIA – Jonathan Alder plated two runs in the sixth inning and nipped River Valley 3-1 in the MOAC.

Alec Branstetter doubled and was the losing pitcher despite allowing only one earned run for RV. Aaron Berg hit two singles, and Travis Eickemeyer and Tom Poorman both singled.

Highland 16, Northmor 0

SPARTA – Dalton Stambaugh (4-2) and Max Schreiber combined to pitch a shutout and Jett Swetland tripled twice and singled in Highland’s 16-0 MOAC win over Northmor.

Stambaugh, Andrew Stillwell, Jacob Fox and Byron Belcher all had multiple hits for the Scots (11-6, 4-3).

Highland’s JVs beat Northmor 23-0 as Quin Winkelfoos hurled the shutout.

Tennis

Upper Sandusky 5, Harding 0

MARION – Harding fell in two sets in each match of a 5-0 loss to Upper Sandusky.

In singles, Win Adissem fell 0-6, 1-6 to Evan Scheck, Jacob Lester lost 2-6, 3-6 to Tommy Martin, and Trent Ramsey was defeated 1-6, 2-6 by Sam Duress.

In doubles, Ryder Delavern and Parker Baird fell 0-6, 1-6 to Drew Barth and Noah Frey. Sara Cornely and Colin Heart lost 0-6, 0-6 to Turner Dilley and Nate Hensel.

Softball

River Valley 4-21, Riverdale 3-1

CALEDONIA – Sha Call had five hits to lead River Valley past Riverdale 4-3 and 21-1.

Madi Myers poked four hits, Cambry Arnold and Alexis Reichardt each poked three, and Morgan Lott and Cassady Starkey each smacked two hits. Allyssa Johnson and Kylie Lang each had one hit.

Highland 1-6, Harding 2-5

SPARTA – Logan Gross hurled a four-hitter for Harding in a 2-1 win and Highland rebounded to triumph 6-5 in game two.

Harding won game one despite being no-hit by Megan Oder. Samantha Thompson had three hits for Highland.

Maxxine Pittman hit a two-run homer for Harding in game two while Emily Needels singled and tripled, Shania Byrne had two hits, and Gross and Aspen Backus each hit a double. Harlee Steck doubled and Parker Steck had two hits for Highland.

Baseball

Licking Heights 1, River Valley 0

COLUMBUS – Karac Doubikin pitched a three-hitter and did not give up an earned run but his River Valley team lost 1-0 to Licking Heights.

Alec Branstetter poked two hits for RV while Logan Fetter, Aaron Berg, Weston Perry and Logan Stockdale singled.

River Valley 2, Whetstone 1

COLUMBUS – Matt Wilch and Jerrett Reichardt knocked in runs in River Valley’s 2-1 victory over Columbus Whetstone.

Bryon Doubikin struck out 10 and pitched a complete game for the Vikes. Aaron Berg hit two singles, and Alec Branstetter, Weston Perry and Wilch hit singles.

Highland 10-11, Harding 0-1

SPARTA – Highland swept Harding 10-0 and 11-1 in the MOAC.

Jett Swetland hit two doubles and had three RBIs and three hits for the Scots. Wyatt Gresh and Byron Belcher both had three hits and Shane Carney added two hits. Dalton Stambaugh pitched a one-hitter.

Swetland hit two doubles and pitched a one-hitter in the nightcap.

Highland’s freshmen lost to Buckeye Valley 17-12 and beat Hamilton Township 19-5. Matt Reid had and Joey Bennett each had four hits against BV, and Bennett added four more hits and was the winning pitcher against Hamilton Township.
