Glenmont brothers charged in elderly mother's death

Staff Report

GLENMONT – Two Glenmont brothers who officials suspect of neglecting to care for their elderly mother, leading to her death, face two felonies after authorities arrested them Tuesday.

Dennis C. Bevington, 54, and Gary L. Bevington, 61, are each charged with involuntary manslaughter, a first-degree felony, and failure to provide for a functionally impaired person, a second-degree felony.

Their 84-year-old mother, Dolores, died Oct. 13 after she was flown to Aultman Hospital in Canton. Authorities have been investigating the death since then, said Chief Deputy Richard Haun, with the Holmes County Sheriff's Office.

Holmes County Prosecutor Steve Knowling declined to comment on the nature of her death as the case is pending.

"They were her caretakers and they failed to provide her necessary care," he said, adding that as a result of that, she died.

Dennis and Gary Bevington will likely appear Thursday in Holmes County court to enter pleas to the charges. They remain in the Holmes County Jail on $100,000 bonds.
