Pleasant girls advance in tourney

MARION – Pleasant shut out Grandview Heights in the first quarter en route to a 44-31 sectional-title win Thursday night in Division III girls basketball tourney action.

The Lady Spartans (17-6) advance to host the winner of today’s Elgin-Ready clash at 7 p.m. Wednesday in a district semifinal.

Pleasant led 9-0 after one period and 18-6 at halftime.

Grandview Heights clawed back in the third period to trail 24-17 after three quarters. Pleasant then won the fourth period 20-14.

Jaden Mauk tallied 12 points and Brittany Davis and Summer Blevins each netted 11 for the Lady Spartans.

Madison Plains 36, Cardington-Lincoln 30

CARDINGTON – Cardington-Lincoln’s season ended with a 36-30 Div. III loss to Madison Plains.

The Lady Pirates couldn‘t muster much offense until it was too late. They trailed 9-2 after one quarter, 17-7 at the half, and 27-15 heading into the final quarter.

Sage Brannon scored eight points and Kyndall Spires added seven for Cardington-Lincoln (15-7).

Granville Christian 62, Ridgedale 34

GRANVILLE – Ridgedale was bounced from Div. IV play with a 62-34 loss to Granville Christian.

A 25-6 edge in the second period helped Granville Christian to a 44-16 halftime lead.

Shae Mattix paced the Lady Rockets with 13 points and Megan Mulvaine hit for eight.

Danville 87, East Knox 34

DANVILLE – Bri Staats scored 39 points to power Danville past East Knox 87-34 in a Div. IV game.

Danville was up 53-21 at the half.

Michaella Lowe led East Knox (3-18) with 14 points and Olivia Durbin scored 11. Durbin also had five rebounds.

Wednesday’s game

North Union 70, Highland 29

RICHWOOD – North Union will host Amanda-Clearcreek at 7 p.m. today in a Div. III game after advancing with a 70-29 victory over Highland on Wednesday.

Taylor Hoffman led the Lady Cats (22-1) with 15 points and Emily Clark tallied 11. Kelsey Walters paced Highland (4-19) with six points.

Boys basketball

North Union 47, Fairbanks 44

MILFORD CENTER – Ronnie Rayburn’s 15 points, nine rebounds and five assists boosted North Union past Fairbanks 47-44 in a Mid Ohio Athletic Conference game.

Blaine Rivers added 13 points for the Wildcats (6-8 MOAC, 11-11 overall) while Zach Kriel canned 10.

Curtis Quimby’s 12 points led Fairbanks (1-12, 5-16).
