Council holds raises for nonbargaining employees

Staff report

COSHOCTON – City Council did not vote on proposed raises for department heads and other nonbargaining employees Monday night, at the request of At-Large Councilman Tom Grier.

Instead, council is expected to vote Aug. 3 in a session set to start at 5 p.m. in Council Chambers. That effectively delays the onset of council’s month-long vacation.

Some council members and city leaders had wanted the panel to waive reading rules Monday and approve the raises as proposed. Grier, however, asked for more time in order to meet with the city auditor and ensure they are in line with other communities.

Following next week’s meeting, council is scheduled to return Sept. 8.
