Local reservist struck, killed on I-77

NEWARK – A Granville man who served in the Ohio National Guard was killed Friday when he was hit by a car on the side of the highway.

Nathan Richeson, 29, was killed on Interstate 77, just south of Interstate 70 about 5 p.m., according to an Ohio Highway Patrol news release. Richeson was changing his tire when another driver lost control and struck him, Sgt. Shaun Baskerville, of the Ohio Highway Patrol, said.

Richeson was declared dead at the scene, and charges still are possible, according to the release.

Richeson, a Granville High School and Ohio University graduate, was a captain in the Ohio Air National Guard 121st Air Refueling Wing at Rickenbacker AIr Force Base, according to his obituary. He was the son of Douglas and Cathy Richeson of Granville and is also survived by his wife, Alyssa.

During his military career, he had served in several tours including Qatar, Iraq, Italy, Turkey, and Libya.
