Terra small business center reports successes

FREMONT – Bill Auxter, coordinator of the Small Business Development Center at Terra State Community College, offers counseling and other services to individuals interested in starting a small business.

In addition to the many seminars and trainings that Auxter delivers throughout the region, he meets with entrepreneurs one-on-one to discuss business ventures.

Here's a look at Auxter's successes:

•He met with 107 clients last year (78 existing businesses and 29 pre-ventures) and spent 671 hours counseling those clients about small business development. Of the 29 pre-ventures, 16 actually established their businesses.

•He helped secure $2.475 million in loans and capital investments for his clients.

•He hosted 34 training events last year and had 258 people attend those training events.

•He created 52 new jobs in the service area and retained 208 jobs.

• For every $1 invested in the SBDC, the federal government received $1.90 in increased revenues and the state received $3.13 in additional revenues.
